MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – (February 2010) – Kingston Plantation and Kingston Shores initiated a viral marketing campaign to seek a deserving individual to receive a special vacation package, The Royal Treatment Getaway at Kingston Resorts. Rebecca Duncan from Greenwood, South Carolina was the winner for the Valentine’s Day drawing that includes a three-day, two-night weekend retreat at Kingston Plantation or Kingston Shores.
The promotion was emailed to more than 700,000 people. Recipients were asked to nominate someone who has worked hard for good reason. The Getaway was developed to reward a candidate who shoulders most of the burden for a family, is a great community volunteer or is working to make a difference in other peoples’ lives. People were asked to nominate the candidates with a short description of why the deserve The Royal Treatment and to accompany that with photos or videos.
More than 480 nominations were received. The winning nomination was submitted by Duncan’s husband who was injured in a debilitating automobile accident last year. “My wife has demonstrated the unconditional love and support that is rarely seen. Throughout the entire experience my wife managed to maintain her regular 40-hour work week, transported me to and from appointments, took care of the house, finances, shopping, preparation of meals, but also for our six-year-old son and two-year-old daughter (and raising them to the best of her abilities to better serve others). Needless to say her energy and spirit through the good times and bad when the pain was more than I thought I could bear cannot be understood with mere words. She stood by me with loving support and the strength of an Army to keep our family together and create the positive memories that will stay with our children forever. While I know I can never repay my wife for all that she has done for me and our family over the last year. this gesture of a time for her to relax and experience the “pampering” she has not been able to do for over a year would be more meaningful than words. I thank you for your time to read a snapshot of our story and the opportunity to reward my wife my best friend, inspiration, and companion in our new life together,” wrote Tim Duncan.
In addition to accommodations, Duncan will receive dinner for two at Omaha Steakhouse, sparkling wine and keepsake champagne flutes, specialty chocolates and a professional portrait taken by the resort photographer.
“We had so many heartwarming nominations,” says Sabena Robinson, director of sales and marketing. “There are so many deserving candidates that we truly feel honored to be able to bring a little joy and relaxation to someone who so clearly deserves it. We will do this promotion again and select another winner around Mother’s Day.”
