MOAA to Meet at Hilton Myrtle Beach Resort this October

State Conference will be Old Home Week for Previous Kingston Resorts Employee

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – (September 14, 2011)Hilton Myrtle Beach Resort at Kingston Shores, an oceanfront resort in Myrtle Beach, will welcome the Military Officers Association of America’s (MOAA) South Carolina conference October 9 – 11, 2011. The independent, nonprofit and nonpartisan organization is the nation’s largest and most influential lobbying association of military officers.

The conference will welcome MOAA members from South Carolina and adjoining states including George, Florida and North Carolina. It is anticipated that more than 300 members will attend.

Col. Roger Pilcher (USMC Ret.) is the president of the local MOAA chapter who booked the conference. It was easy for him since he had a 15-year employment history with Kingston Resorts, which includes Hilton Myrtle Beach Resort. His career with Kingston followed a 28-year career with the Marine Corps where he travelled around the world. At Kingston, Pilcher managed the Sports & Health Club and also served as the utility manager. He officially retired during the summer of 2010.

“Our local chapter is quite active,” says Pilcher. “We organized a Military Appreciation Day in May and also work with Wounded Warriors and veterans to assist with jobs, support and family issues.” The chapter also sponsors three college scholarships for local graduates.

Pilcher said he is proud to bring his military associates to Kingston Resorts, one of Myrtle Beach’s luxury resorts. The fall conference will feature four and three-star generals and admirals in the top speaking slots in addition to educational programs on insurance, travel, retirement villages and saving for the future. This is the second conference MOAA has held in South Carolina.

Kingston Resorts includes Kingston Plantation and the adjacent Kingston Shores, which are owned by FelCor Lodging Trust, Inc. These Myrtle Beach resorts offer a Hilton Myrtle Beach Resort, an Embassy Suites Myrtle Beach Oceanfront Hotel and a variety of luxury Myrtle Beach condominiums, townhomes and Myrtle Beach vacation villas all located along the famous Grand Strand. Guests at both properties can enjoy access to recreational facilities including a 50,000 square-foot Sport & Health Club with indoor and outdoor pools, lit tennis courts, pro shop and state-of-the-art fitness equipment, Splash!, an oceanfront water park and lazy river, Rees Jones-designed Arcadian Shores Golf Course and a host of seasonal activities for adults and children.
