500 Turkeys Are Basting In The Ovens At Kingston Plantation

MYRTLE BEACH, SC – (December 2007) – If you needed to cook 500 turkeys, where would you turn for help? Fortunately, Abe Safa and friends turned to Chef Peter Gennaro and the team at Kingston Plantation. This week, 500 turkeys were delivered from US Food to Kingston’s kitchens to prepare a holiday dinner for 500 Horry County families.

“We started the program last year,” says Safa, the project organizer. “We were able to deliver 250 complete dinners so we decided to work harder and double our efforts this year.”

Working with area school guidance counselors, Boys & Girls Clubs and other community organizations, the group identified 500 families to receive the meals. Then, Safa and friends, Sam Vitharana, Jason Green, Greg Sisson and Greg Harrelson and a host of other local community members, raised enough money to buy 500 complete holiday dinners with turkey, three side dishes, cranberry and pie. Kingston Plantation’s Chef Gennaro and team are pitching in to prepare all the meals.

The meals will be delivered on December 24 starting at 11 a.m. The group has recruited 60 drivers to pick up the meals and make the deliveries.

“We’re thrilled to be part of the effort,” says Gennaro. “We’ve put our best team on the effort and have a pretty busy schedule baking 500 turkeys and pies for Sunday. Abe and his team are to be commended for organizing and funding this program. We are proud to do the fun part of cooking and assembling the meals.”
